“Race Rules”: An Interactive Discussion with Author Fatimah Gilliam ‘96

Please join us for a unique, engaging, and provocative conversation about race in the US today, with leading anti-racism activist and consultant, Fatimah Gilliam ‘96, author of Race Rules: What Your Black Friend Won’t Tell You. Our program will include an expert interview with the author by a WRJI leader, productive small group dialogue, and a plenary conversation with the author, WRJI leaders, and alums. All alums can benefit from this event, regardless of how you identify and/or your stage of learning about race and racism. You will be challenged, respected and supported in your anti-racism journey, even as you advance the growth of others.

Race Rules is a pragmatic response to this moment in American history – seeking to drive equity and behavioral change, while helping people navigate polarizing issues and expand cultural fluency across race. This distinctive antiracism book provides critical how-to advice on effective cross-racial allyship, following up with tangible tools and action steps for all readers. As one reviewer writes, “Fatimah Gilliam says the quiet part out loud.”  Moreover, Race Rules provides Black-identified readers with historical and individual validation for shared experiences, as well as concrete words and talking points to support them.
